There are two different types of electrode, the ignition electrodes and the flame sensing electrodes. The ignition electrode also known as a spark electrode, is responsible for causing a spark that starts off combustion. The flame sensing electrodes are responsible for ensuring there is a flame in the burner, and stops fuel from being added if there is no flame .
