There are two different types of electrode, the flame sensing electrodes and the ignition electrodes. The ignition electrode is responsible for causing a spark that starts off the combustion process. The flame sensing electrodes are responsible for ensuring there is a flame in the burner, and stops fuel from being added if there is no flame .
